Tiphereth Banks

Alameda County
Project: Sauti: Therapeutic Art Workshops for Youth

Tiphereth Banks is a 23-year-old artist and entrepreneur, born in Berkeley, CA and raised in the Bay Area. She has been creating art since she was a small child. Her dad taught her how to draw shapes, make patterns, use the color spectrum, and read books on art and about artists. Since then, she has been sketching, working on mural projects, using mixed media, and creating art for contests, competitions, art shows, and exhibitions.

While working at an art-based youth training program as a junior artist, Tiphereth discovered a passion for teaching and supporting the youth of the urban community. She has been an active advocate for youth in the Bay Area and is planning out her next move to successfully create an enterprise that benefits the community.

She graduated from Oakland High School in 2012 and is currently a student at Berkeley City College.

Tiphereth will host art therapeutic workshops for Bay Area youth who have overcome traumatic experiences, preferably foster youth and incarcerated youth, from the ages of 10 and older.

"Art has the ability to heal emotional wounds. For years, art has helped me push through harsh times and adversity. Often, while I'm creating my thoughts are being processed and I am able to accept certain past event that were either traumatic or depressing. By the time I finish a piece or a sketch, I forget what I'm mad at, my emotions literally transform into pure love and happiness. Art has saved my life and brought me joy numerous times. I believe that art can save others as well."
