Project: UnTold Stories: Unity through Teaching

Renee Menart is the youngest of 6 children and credits her interests and accomplishments to family experiences that have taught her to value her individual voice, while embracing and accepting others.

Renee believes that creative communication is essential to building strong and unified communities. That art in various forms - be it visual, auditory, or performative - can allow us to tap into a deeper sense of self as we connect to the piece and confront intense, sometimes uncomfortable, emotions.

Inspired by her background in early childhood education and and current work in juvenile justice reform, Renee will create a children's book that supports young children impacted by a loved one's incarceration. This project will empower families by providing opportunities for family engagement, literacy development, and connection to community resources.

"My desire to connect communities through art stands alongside my dedication to supporting youth and adults impacted by the juvenile and criminal justice systems."
