Paul Monge-Rodriguez
San Francisco, CA
Project: San Francisco Parent University Feasibility Study
Paul’s family fled El Salvador as refugees in the 1980’s. Now a graduate student in Public Policy, Paul is preparing for a career in public service that will “promote a socially inclusive approach to development that not only brings the needs of low-income and immigrant families to the forefront but that genuinely engages these communities in determining the appropriate solutions.”
Paul’s award will support his work with community based organizations and the San Francisco Unified School District to conduct a feasibility study for a San Francisco Parent University. When implemented, the University will help public school parents and caregivers become better-prepared advocates and partners in their children’s education. The study will include citywide focus groups of parents, students, teachers and service providers to ensure that the University’s programs meet the needs of the school district families.
